£38,531 to £43,127 plus £2,930 location allowance. You’ll receive £38,531 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £43,127 will be via incremental progression

It’s a fascinating role working with a unique team within Technology, Research and Innovation within the SCO35 intelligence command of the Metropolitan Police Service. The team applies cutting edge technology to develop and deliver the solutions that will drive the Met into the future. Our work is sensitive, ground-breaking and revolutionary and we're proud to be blazing a trail in emerging technologies in specialist areas such as communications and secure systems

Full lifecycle electronic design and miniaturization, prototyping, manufacture, assembly and test with the emphasis on Electronic design will all be part of your busy remit. A typical day may involve software and hardware development, participating in project meetings, design reviews/workshops and meeting with customers or suppliers. From time to time you’ll also be required to provide third line support and complex fault analysis in the field alongside operational colleagues and officers. And we may call on your expertise to evaluate, recommend and modify specialist equipment from the marketplace to meet specific business needs.

To succeed you’ll need to have an Honors degree in Electronic and/or Electrical Engineering or an HNC/HND in Electronic and/or Electrical Engineering with significant demonstrable hands-on practical experience in Electronic Systems development. You’ll also need the ability to turn ideas into practical, usable, realistic, manufacturable electronic solutions and will be comfortable working alone, in a project team in the laboratory or out in the field. Experience-wise, we’re looking for:

  • General Electronics design
  • Design of embedded systems including hardware and software
  • Design of FPGA based systems
  • Knowledge of Audio, Communication and RF systems or design
  • PSU and Battery technologies
  • Schematic capture and PCB design
  • Liaison with external suppliers and manufacturers
  • Manufacturing techniques
  • Experience of product evaluation and selection against specified criteria
