Due to continued international success we are recruiting for an International Sales Engineer to focus on a mix of new business growth and account management growth within the electronic component industry. This opportunity would suit a highly motivated and outgoing individual capable of working independently, as well as part of a team, with previous technical sales and engineering experience.

The role of International Sales Engineer will be based out of our Clacton-on-Sea, Essex manufacturing facility but with the potential to work from home up to 40% of the time, as well as regular international travel worldwide, as required.

About the Company

Pickering Electronics is a world leader in designing, manufacturing and distributing Reed Relays. The company was established in 1968 and now employs over 100 people in our UK factory, located in Essex, and over 100 people in our other manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic. Pickering exports about 90% of its products, thus the opportunity for a hands-on sales role has arisen to represent the company both in the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be reporting to the Technical Director, but on a day to day basis will work closely with the Inside Sales Coordinator. Main duties will include:

  • Develop & support international sales channels – including global representatives, agents and distributors
  • Be the main point of contact for new direct sales, agents, representatives and distributors worldwide
  • Establish and develop professional working relationships with Design Engineers and Technical Purchasing Managers (existing and new customers)
  • Visit and present technical sales pitches to existing and potential new customers
  • Understand what a Reed Relay is and what applications they are used in
  • Attend and represent the company at tradeshows worldwide
  • Follow up with new sales prospects (from website generated leads, exhibition leads and marketing campaigns)
  • Liaise and assist with the Technical and Marketing Departments to identify potential customers and areas of interest within the electronics industry
  • Assisting with our soon to be launched web shop
  • Other duties and targets to be discussed in interview

Experience / Requirements

  • 5 years’ minimum sales experience
  • Degree education or equivalent, preferably in a relevant scientific or engineering subject
  • Strong technical knowledge of electronic components or experience within the electronic component or test and measurement industry is desirable
  • Good communication skills
  • Second language, such as German, would be advantageous
  • An enthusiastic individual who is able to identify and open new customer opportunities
  • Create long-term relationships with customers
  • Regular international travel
  • Located in commutable distance to head office, in Clacton-On-Sea, typically 3 days a week
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Valid passport
