Engineering Materials Technical Specialist - High Voltage
Up to £60K

As Material Specialist you will perform engineering work in applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and documentation of products or systems. You will use research techniques to analyse and validate design or theory concepts. You will also provide direction to engineering and production team members where required.

You will:

*Be responsible for current and new insulation material theory and research to ensure consistent performance and industry leading technology.
*Be responsible for process control methods of production encapsulation and other materials used.
*Analyze high voltage failures and trends, then create solutions and corrective actions to improve products and processes.
*Be responsible for understanding high voltage stress and the interactions with insulation mediums to enable smaller and reliable products to be created.
*Be responsible for many aspects of programs or projects and the corresponding cost, time and administrative documentation/paperwork.
*Follow key engineering procedures including the Product Development Process and ECO process for support after transition into manufacturing
*Provide relevant support to company functions such as engineering, manufacturing, test and service.

A successful candidate will need:

*A minimum HNC in Chemistry / Physics or equivalent
*A strong background and understanding of materials and insulation mediums, ideally for use in high voltage.
*An ability to understand the root cause of high voltage insulation failures, by theory, disassembly, inspection and testing.
*To understand material properties and high voltage theory.
*To be able to carry out finite element analysis and interpret results to test current designs, create design rules and push for smaller products.
*To be able to operate a variety of electrical test instrumentation and carry out high voltage testing.
*To be able to fabricate new parts or modify of existing parts (drills, saws, general manual dexterity).
*The ability to multi task whilst ensuring critical timelines are achieved.
*A proactive and highly motivated attitude for excellence and self-improvement

*A minimum of 3 years full time employment in a relevant environment, ideally more than 8 years of relevant materials and process experience with a high voltage company.
*3 plus years' experience either using epoxy, silicone rubber or polyurethane materials.
*3 plus years working in applications involving high voltage.
*Experience in process control when working with materials.
*Experience in understanding failure modes and suggest corrective actions.
*Capable of theoretical material analysis and experience in conducting practical experiments to show proven in both academic and practical aspects.
