Based in the North of the UK, the Senior Switch Mode Power Supply Design Engineer (SMPS) will be joining a rapidly growing Electronics company. The company is at the forefront of innovation, technical excellence and customer satisfaction. They have grown significantly in the last year, especially over the past 6 months, with well over 50% increase in turnover in 2010. Similar growth and expansion has followed this year and the company has ambitious plans to go global.

Responsibilities may include working closely with the marketing teams and customers to create an agreed product specification, take responsibility for managing the design project and delivering it on time/within the budget from concept to volume manufacturing, produce cost-effective electronic designs with appropriate documentation, mentor junior engineers of the team, perform PCB designs/layout and conduct some low level programming in C/C++ for products as well as understanding the LED market/standards. Other responsibilities could also include supporting production during new product introduction phase, ensuring design compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, supporting sales and marketing teams and working with other key internal/external figures

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing hardware electronics, a solid background in the development of off-line Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) or equivalent and competent in the design of power switching stages/ magnetics and control loops. Understanding of EMC standards/ safety requirements in design is also essential. Previous exposure to managing design projects would be highly desirable as will providing team leadership, working in the lighting industry and in a low cost-high volume electronic design environment. Previous exposure to working with Altium would be advantageous as will be knowledge of embedded software.
