I require a Senior Purchaser, engineering for my client located in Hertfordshire. Preference is for a CIPS membership or equivalent or an engineering based qualification.
This role located in Hertfordshire requires:
*Participating in establishing a coherent purchasing strategy for all production materials and support services purchased by the company.
*Assisting in identifying, selecting and measuring the performance of suppliers, from global sources, who will best meet their needs and provide the best possible value to the company.
*Developing and managing the database of key information e.G. Prices, costs, materials and currencies etc. To enable an intelligent and proactive response to changing market conditions.
*Assisting in developing a supplier base which exploits foreign currency advantages and balances costs against existing currency revenue.
*The issuing of RFQs and analysis of price movements.
*The management of the department's documentation.
*Conducting negotiations with suppliers in order to achieve the best commercial terms for the company, taking full account of all hidden costs and long term implications.
*Using input from internal stakeholders, to manage supplier performance to ensure that each supplier supports the Operation Department's requirements of delivery, quality and reliability.
*Assist in identifying areas of risk in the material supply chain, such as with single sourced components, and to take appropriate action to mitigate that risk.
*Liaise with the R & D and Production Engineering departments to provide commercial input and investigate sources of new products and processes.
The successful candidate will have experience of significant experience in a purchasing / supply chain role within engineering / manufacturing environment and Global logistics experience is mandatory, including foreign currency transactions and involvement with and import / export arrangements. Experience of MRP systems would be useful.
