Our client, part of a highly successful international parent, is an exciting entrepreneurial high-tech electronics company, specialising in developing and delivering high quality niche instrumentation for a demanding international customer base.

An exciting opportunity has now arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager, to assume responsibility for new product design/development & product support in this highly competitive business environment. This will involve a focus on implementing structured project management resulting in faster and more efficient development cycle times.

Responsibilities:-

Manage and motivate a team of 7 Engineers with strong leadership credentials that facilitates delivery of targets and generates a proactive environment of continuous improvement.
Play the leading role in creating and maintaining commercially viable engineering solutions (software and hardware) in support of customer driven projects for new and existing markets.
Improve task assignment and performance management with focus on people development and goal achievement.
Ensure product design is suitable for efficient manufacturing and service of all products.
Implement disciplined and robust design practices that contribute to excellent quality and reliability.
Develop plans and manage resources to deliver customer specific projects, manage field investigations and deliver development programmes that include formal Type Testing.
Manage all product software and releases to customers ensuring they are fully tested and compliant to specification.
Manage the formal design and development cycle including review of critical parameters, DFMEA and formal stage gate release.
Integration of software into electronic products and development/life cycle testing.
Manage new product introduction from design and development to timely supply of production test equipment (ATE) in accordance with European design standards
Support the design impact in the manufacturing process including costs and life cycle reliability and compliance to ROSHH and WEEE.
Disseminate technical information and ensure coherent communication with cross functional teams

Experience:-

Degree or similar in Software/Computer/Electronics, with an emphasis on software.
5-10 years relevant management experience, able to demonstrate team achievements and exceeding of goals and targets.
Credibility to transform the team ethos to a “can do” mentality, encourage innovation, creative thinking and a tenacious approach to problem solving.
Detailed understanding of analogue/digital electronics including serial communication interfaces and DC power supplies.
Knowledge of the design and application of H8, PIC, ARM, AVR and Motorola, 8051 and TI microprocessors.
In-depth skill of writing and testing C, C++, Visual C++, Assembly, SQL, HTML/XML, Visual Basic 6, Java, Delphi and VHDL software.
Specific knowledge of Windows CE, Super Task and OS X RTOS.
Extensive experience of development environments such as Paradigm, MPLAB, HEW, Archimedes, Codewarrior, TI Code Compose and Kiel M Vision.
Skills in testing, debug, systems maintenance, integration, production assembly, validations, component and equipment issues.
Fully conversant with all stages of a high technology product lifecycle.
Proven success in a dynamic, high pressure environment - software development within automotive, electronics, telecoms, medical devices, health & safety, instrumentation or controls could be particularly relevant.
Proven track record in improving product development cycle times.
An experienced problem solver, results oriented who strives for resolution of issues.

You will also be a strong leader and an excellent communicator who is able to take decisions and influence those around you. Commercially astute to the needs of the marketplace, you must be able to investigate new technologies, evaluate and act upon legislative changes & customer generated requests.

In addition, you will have well developed presentation and customer facing skills and will demonstrate a passion for embracing technology and a thirst for knowledge on the latest developments within world class electronics engineering.

Given the nature of this role, you will be expected to travel overseas on a frequent basis.
