Software Integration Engineer to £55k + Benefits Southampton

In the initial stages of the development and integration of a new feature, Integrators work alongside the System Architect and the Developers. They bring their wider knowledge of the system and also identify early what will be required to integrate the new feature (infrastructure, simulators, components, etc). The development follows an Agile approach with the Integrators adding the functionality to the middleware test framework required to prove the new features. This embedded C code runs on the hardware and comprises approximately 30% of an integrators work. The Integrator takes responsibility for the resolution of the challenging technical issues that arise as the project progresses.

Main responsibilities and duties
*Lead the integration of new features, bringing developers, architects and infrastructure teams together to agree the integration strategy.
*Develop (in C and C#) the test harness.
*Making the software work together, often for the first time.
*Lead complex investigation in cutting edge projects; working with development teams and with other big players in the sector.
*Responsible for delivering the new Middleware features to the main Middleware source code base, ensuring high quality criteria is met.
*Support the improvement of the development cycle by identifying areas for improvement.
*Support launch phases (user trials and phased downloads) including occasional travel to the customer to investigate complex issues.


Mandatory skills and experience
*Degree or equivalent in computer science, electronics engineer, communications engineer
*Strong development skills including C (preferably real time).
*Experience of structured technical problem solving.
*Debugging embedded/real time software
*Belief in good s/w lifecycle discipline and understanding of the place integration has within it.
*Use of emulator/debugger on embedded systems.
*Simulator use and/or development.

Desirable skills and experience
*Linux in Embedded Systems / RTOS
*UPnP / DLNA
*Software Engineer
*Integration Engineer
