Opportunity
Our client sells super fast satellite broadband & services. In 2010 they launched its first £100M satellite & in 2012 will launch they`re second with a third & fourth scheduled.
Duties
- operation of client`s multi-vendor server & storage infrastructure, HP, Redhat, VMWare & EMC.
- Administrate & maintain operational support systems & infrastructure services eg, web/email services, DNS, authentication servers & operational tools
- system, storage & service availability
- identify & resolve application, database or operating system faults
- Manage, troubleshoot & optimise Unix (mostly Linux) servers, & related storage & network components
- 3rd line support of Customer Support Group for remote satellite & wireless equipment, work with partners/vendors
- daily routine system & storage management tasks, eg. changes, incident escalation, status & issue reports
- report on Unix & Database estate operation, inventory, utilization & accounting
- Assist design, scope & implementation of new solutions for projects
- planning tasks

Required
- B.Sc. Computer Science or equivalent
- commercial experience of Linux Administration
- server & storage virtualisation
- shell scripting (bash, perl, python)
- monitoring, automation & configuration management experience
- commands/utilities/concepts including but not limited to Apache, FTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP, ssh, basic permissions, conf files & cron tasks
- willingness to work occasionally long hours under pressure
- Strong analytical, diagnostic & problem solving skills
- English with excellent oral & written communications

Desirable
- Linux accreditations
- TCP/IP networking & Junos
- open source tools eg. Drupal, MySQL, nagios, smokeping, & cacti
- configuration management tools eg. Puppet & Chef advantageous
- Service Delivery in service provider or Telco
- Understanding of software development lifecycle management,continuous deployment, DevOps culture
- DNS, Firewalls, Load Balancing, Proxies, Web Servers, Clustering
- environments in cloud eg. Amazon AWS, EC2
- Windows admin
